VIDIANO
PROTECTED GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATION CRETE
LOCATION : From our private vineyards of the Asites region in the foothills of Psiloritis, 20km southwest of Heraklion, Crete, we use the raw materials to produce this particular wine. Because this variety was only revived in the last decade, its vines are still young in age.
VARIETY : VIDIANO 100%.
VINTAGE : Classic white vinification at low temperatures of 16˚C. Maturation for 3 months on fine lees, followed by bottling.
FEATURES : The grapes of the Vidiano variety create a wine with a distinctive golden color and a complex bouquet of citrus aromas such as bergamot, as well as scents of pear, banana and melon. It is a tasty and somewhat oily wine with unique acidity which makes it an excellent accompaniment for a wide range of dishes and foods.
ACCOMPANIMENT : The perfect accompaniment for seafood, poultry and pasta with light sauces. Best consumed at 10˚C-12˚C.
AWARDS :
PHILOSOPHY : This particular wine is made from the special white variety of grape native to Crete, whose cultivation has been revived on the island over the past 5-6 years, and which circulates in a few labels. Our winery has cultivated this variety in recent years, and due to its increasing strength we have invested a lot of faith in it. The first samples were excellent, thus we went ahead with bottling the wine for the first time in 2010. Our winery has great expectations of this particular variety and we personally believe that it has the makings to become the future flagship of exports for all wine-producers of the island.
LABEL : The wine label depicts a skein and just below it a labyrinth. Essentially, it represents the mythological thread of Ariadne. Through this symbol, we seek to illustrate the scarcity of the VIDIANO variety, especially since we believe that its recent discovery will be a tremendous incentive to create exceptional wines with lucrative gains for Cretan wine-producers.
